Morning Star Preschool’s Programme

Morning Star Preschool is a small centre, providing care for up to 35 children aged up to five years old, and 5 babies under two years old.

In under twos area, we cater for babies under two years old. We understand a secure, safe and happy environment is vital for babies, so we work closely with parents to provide a holistic approach to your children’s growth and development ensuring they have the best nurseries in a family like environment.

Your child’s early years are very important and we understand that preschool education teaches children essential pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-maths skills through play and teacher-initiated activities.

Children are taught how to read and write Chinese characters and numbers. Our bi-lingual teachers provide educational activities to stimulate the children, and independent learning is encouraged. We offer a wide variety of both English and Mandarin books, games and activities.

Children work at their own pace and they learn by doing. We encourage children to initiate activities by having a wide range of educational and enjoyable resources available for self-selection.

We have wonderful facilities, play areas and garden, including an edible garden where children grow their own vegetables and herbs.
Inspiring by the concept of “Forest kindergarten”, we are working towards to create a nature and sustainability focused environment with our children and families / Whānau. We encourage children between the ages of three and five to play, explore and learn in natural environment. We regularly take children out to our local communities and parks to experience the attraction of the outdoor environment.

Under Two Year Olds

For Under Twos we have a teacher/child ratio of 1/3, so your child will receive individual attention.

The under two area is designed to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment where your child will learn while having fun and interacting with children of their own age.

Children have access to a wide range of toys, learning equipment, indoor and outdoor play areas, where they can challenge themselves while remaining completely safe

Over Two Year Olds

Our teacher/child ratio for Over Twos is 1/6, ensuring your child is well cared for and receives lots of individual attention.

Our 2 to 3 year old junior programme teaches age-appropriate skills such as self-helping skills to practice their large and small motor skills, gain confidence in their ability to build their self-esteem and independence.

Transition to School Programme

To prepare children for the next stage of their development we have a transition to school programme called “Fun@Four”.

In Morning Star, preschoolers learn to manage themselves appropriately in the school environment. Ideally, they learn to listen carefully to stories, follow instruction, sit quietly on the mat, raise hand to ask a question, put on shoes and jersey, put bag away, wash hands, sit and eat food at break time, pack bag and carry it, and so on.

The targeted curriculum is designed to further prepare them in maths, writing, reading, language, music, listening skills, coordination, science and cooking, and build their social confidence. We also teach the abacus as we have observed that this helps develop impressive mathematical ability.

This programme gets children accustomed to the school day, and makes the transition from play centre easier for both the child and their parents.

Transition to School Programme
To prepare children for the next stage of their development we have a transition to school programme called “Fun@Four”.

The day is structured more like a school day, children are asked to bring their own morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch, just as they would at school, and they have homework to take home with them.

The targeted curriculum is designed to further prepare them in maths, writing, reading, language, music, listening skills, coordination, science and cooking, and build their social confidence. We also teach the abacus as we have observed that this helps develop impressive mathematical ability.
